THE 6 STEPS

The method - the backbone of the craft

The teaching in the coach training programme is based on The 6 Steps, a coaching method developed by Sofia Manning and widely recognised as the classic form of coaching in Denmark. The 6 Steps is an effective method that helps people create results in the real world - whether it is achieving inner peace or financial freedom, finding your passion, regaining your inspiration, overcoming obstacles or improving teamwork.

The 6 Steps are described in Sofia Manning's 2004 book Coaching. The book became a bestseller and the method has ever since been the leading form of coaching in Denmark. The book was updated and republished in June 2016.

Our programme is structured so that you get both theory and practice, and we put a lot of emphasis on the latter, because we believe that practice makes perfect. Therefore, we make a virtue of the fact that you hear, see, try and thus integrate what we convey. For us, coaching is a craft - something you become good at by doing it, and we have carefully considered this in the construction of our programme.

First and foremost, you will get to know our basic method, The 6 Steps, in depth. The method is your backbone in coaching and will follow you throughout the programme. We begin with the 6 Steps already in Module 1, and as the programme progresses, you will get more and more handles to master the method. The 6 Steps are the cornerstone of your coaching, and it is also the 6 Steps that you will be certified in at the end of the programme.

The 6 Steps:

Step 1: Goal setting - what do you want to achieve?

Step 2: Obstacles - what prevents you from achieving your goal?

Step 3: Motivation - what is the motivation to achieve the goal?

Step 4: Break the Pattern - what pattern perpetuates your behaviour and how do you break it?

Step 5: New alternatives - your new alternative to your old pattern

Step 6: The good ending - effective plan to implement your new alternative and reach your goal

But you will learn much more about this in the Coach Programme. You can learn the basics from Sofia Manning's book Coaching, first published in 2004 and most recently republished in a revised and updated edition in 2016.
